Talking Points:

E-Verify is a National ID system that collects your personal information from multiple sources and combines that information to form a National database of people that the Federal Government sees fit to be employed.

E-Verify creates a centralized federal database of personal information about all Americans. Decisions about the exact nature and scope of this program will be made by unelected bureaucrats. It seems inevitable that biometric information will be included at some point. No one intends a bad use for this system today, but it is inevitable that it will be used in bad ways in the future.

If we make a law requiring employers to use E-Verify, we take away a person's right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. We take a right, & make it a privilege. We, as
citizens of the U.S. have rights. If I can't get a job without having a national ID; and E-Verify is a national ID, than that makes getting a job a privilege. A privilege is something that I don't have a right to, something that I can't do without permission. To make a law that requires this, is in my opinion, un-Constitutional & anti-American. This is a national ID system, & make no mistake, this will infringe on the rights of our citizens, including religious rights. We need to think long and hard about the laws that we make.

We do understand that we need to do something about the illegal immigration issue. Whatever solutions we look at, we must uphold the constitution first & foremost. This is why all elected officials must swear an oath to protect the constitution, and why our founding fathers considered it treason to break that oath.

With E-Verify we are promised increased personal security in return for laying this new "foundation stone" for the creation of a future police state, but those who would trade freedom for security deserve neither, and will have neither.

E-Verify has been called the "Get Permission to Work from the Feds System". This is an accurate description of E-Verify.

E-Verify places the burden of control on businesses, in effect making them unpaid immigration police.

E-Verify will be a burden to businesses. It will cost money & time to implement. This is especially true for our small businesses. If E-Verify is made mandatory some small businesses will make it a point to not grow so they don't have to hire employees. Some, no doubt, will fire current employees so they don't have to mess with the E-Verify system.

Some people say that, "Illegals would not be here without jobs", I say that illegals would not be here without the free hand outs, & if they were here, they would not be able to work for less than our own citizens.

Why do you want to place restrictions on your legal constituents instead of placing the burden of proof on the illegals that are trying to get free services that you & I pay for?
We don't want more laws or duplicate laws. Why not enforce laws that we already have? There are already laws on the books that prohibit hiring and harboring illegal aliens and provide penalties for violation that include fines & imprisonment. See the Federal Immigration and Nationality Act Section 8 USC 1324(a)(1)(A)(iv)(b)(iii).

When your personal information is put into a central database you become more vulnerable to identity theft.

Many good arguments can be made against E-Verify, but they all reduce to one overpowering truth; the more power government has the less it seems able to accomplish. Big Government doesn't work. The federal government needs to do less in order to accomplish more. Small government is focused government. We need
smaller government, not a massive new federal identification system. Please ask your State Legislators to oppose any legislation that includes E-Verify. Please be clear about this -- I withdraw my consent for you to govern me with any scheme for a centralized, standardized, federalized ID system.

Finally, we don't want any protection from the government that involves increasing government power, or decreasing our rights.
